Linux OS Distribution Characteristics - Linux Training - Classroom & Online
Linux Classroom Training - From the Linux Distribution Vendor
Many of the major Linux distribution vendors offer classroom training, but it is often extremely expensive and only designed for highly technical people - like programmers and tech support staff that already have some kind of foundation in Linux and working with computers.
And if they have a Linux "basics" type of course - make sure it runs (as scheduled) and that you can
attend it at a local location. Sometimes these courses are on the schedule, but never run!
Have a look at their Linux training catalog to see the courses offered and also - be sure to get a look at the training manuals to see the content of the courses offered.
Are their Linux manuals readable or just highly technical geek-speak?
At least one major Linux distro won't even let you see the manuals - or see a sample of the manuals - of a course that you're paying thousands of dollars for! What are they afraid of?
Try and speak to the person that will actually be doing the training - can you understand what they're saying about what the Linux course offers?
Linux Commands Training Tips: Always be sure to call and ask for a discount for all Linux classroom and online training. Even major Linux distros offer substantial Linux educational discounts - especially for Linux classroom training.
Linux Classroom Training - From "Other" Linux Training Companies
You can sometimes get good quality, reasonably priced classroom training from companies that are not associated with the major Linux distributions.
However, the training may not be specific enough to your distribution to be useful.
As described above, still check the course catalog and training manuals - and try to get to speak to the teacher to see if he or she is understandable.
Linux Online Training - From The Linux Distribution Vendor
Some of the major Linux distribution vendors offer online training in various forms (screen captures, videos, interactive). Be sure to check the price before you commit - ouch!
Make sure the online training is current and have a look at some samples before committing.
Linux Online Training - From "Other" Linux Training Companies
There are other companies that offer Linux online training and you can often see free sample videos to see if this type of Linux training will work for you.
